Inspiration for an Amazing Wedding Cake
Wedding cakes are truly special. Hopefully, a couple will only choose one wedding cake in their lifetime. Therefore, this should be a cake to remember. There are two main routes to go with wedding cakes: Traditional and Nontraditional.
Traditional Wedding Cakes
Most brides will want to have a traditional wedding cake for their special day. A typical traditional cake would be made out of white cake and would have white icing decorations. It typically is multiple layers with lots of swirls and garlands. On top is one of a variety of wedding cake toppers, normally of the bride and groom dressed in formalwear.
For those couples who want to stick with a more traditional wedding cake, following are some ideas:
- Include the colors of the wedding party in the cake.
- Create a multi-layered fantasy with not only the bride and groom figurines but also the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Make sure they are wearing the correct colors and are of the correct number to match your bridal party.
- Top the cake with a cascade of flowers.
- There are poisonous flowers out there that you want to avoid including Lily of the Valley, daffodil, and azaleas. Also some can cause allergic reactions in people. Make sure to research any flower that you might choose.
- Use a beautiful fruit like strawberries to highlight your cake.
Nontraditional Wedding Cakes
This is where the sky's the limit. Are you planning to honeymoon in Paris? Why not have an Eiffel Tower Cake. Was your first date at a movie? Create a miniature movie theater. The point of being nontraditional is that the bride and groom can incorporate what makes them unique in their cake.
Nontraditional wedding cake ideas include:
- Where the Couple Met
- If the couple work together for an IT firm, then the cake could incorporate computers.
- Location of First Date
- If the first date was playing putt-putt golf, then the cake could be a really unique putt-putt golf course incorporating numerous levels and layers.
- Honeymoon Destination
- For an island honeymoon, the cake could incorporate flip flops, sunglasses, and beach chairs
- Hobbies the Couple Shares
- If the couple is really into fantasy, the cake could be a unique castle complete with moat.
- Favorite Cuisine
- If the couple loves chinese take-out, the cake could be a take out box. To add something extra, the couple could create individualized "fortunes" out of paper that would stick "out of" the box for guests to pull.
I think you can get the picture. The sky's the limit with nontraditional wedding cakes. Just remember that in the end the day only happens once so choose wisely. Further iinformation about wedding cake recipes.
